Abstract

Stress is a major challenge for teenagers today, affecting their physical, mental, and learning health. Pressure from peers, teachers, family, and limited free time contributes to increased stress. Physical impacts include indigestion and irregularities in reproductive hormones, including the menstrual cycle. Stress also reduces focus on learning, optimism in facing problems, and motivation to achieve goals. Therefore, managing adolescent stress is an important issue relevant to developing innovative nursing practices focused on mental health. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in reducing stress in adolescents, with a nursing approach that supports emotion regulation. This study used a one-group pretest-posttest design on 52 adolescent girls. Participants participated in a structured mindfulness training program for emotion regulation, consisting of 1 introductory session and 3 mindfulness practice sessions. Stress levels were measured before and after the intervention using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) that has been validated for adolescents. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests to determine the difference in stress scores before and after the intervention. The findings revealed that the average stress score prior to the intervention was 24.6 with a standard deviation of 5.1, and it decreased to 18.3 with a standard deviation of 4.7 after the intervention. Statistical analysis using the paired t-test demonstrated a highly significant reduction in stress levels, confirming that mindfulness interventions are effective in alleviating stress among adolescent girls. Structured mindfulness practice interventions for emotion regulation have been shown to be effective in lowering stress levels in adolescent girls. This approach is relevant to nursing practices that support adolescent mental health and can be further developed as a nursing innovation for stress management in an educational setting.

Abstract

Background: This review synthesizes research on the effect of warm socks and vibration foot using digital devices on plasma lactate levels and foot vascularization among adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) to address gaps in understanding non-pharmacological interventions targeting diabetic microvascular and metabolic dysfunction. The review aimed to evaluate thermal and vibration therapies^ impact on plasma lactate, benchmark digital device interventions for foot vascularization, elucidate underlying vascular mechanisms, compare measurement methodologies, and clarify microvascular-metabolic relationships. Methods: A review was conducted by searching PubMed search strategy to identify randomized controlled trials and quays experimental published to 9 August 10, 2025. Results: Findings 19 studies indicate that thermal therapies can modestly improve macrovascular endothelial function and mobilize progenitor cells, though microvascular responses are variable and neuropathy may limit efficacy- vibration therapy evidence remains scarce with limited direct assessment of plasma lactate or vascular outcomes. Plasma lactate is often elevated in T2DM, with exercise reducing lactate during activity but basal levels largely unaffected- the influence of thermal or vibration interventions on lactate remains underexplored. Advanced digital devices demonstrate feasibility for intervention delivery and continuous monitoring but lack robust clinical validation. Conclusion: These findings highlight the potential of integrated thermal and mechanical digital therapies to modulate vascular and metabolic parameters, underscoring the need for standardized, larger scale trials to optimize clinical application and mechanistic understanding in diabetic populations.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension affects 1,28 billion adults globally and remains the leading risk factor for cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Despite widely available therapies, only one in three patients achieve adequate control, largely due to poor medication adherence and insufficient self-management. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been widely studied for stress and lifestyle behaviors, yet their contribution to antihypertensive medication adherence remains poorly understood.
Purpose: This scoping review sought to map and synthesize evidence on mindfulness interventions for hypertension. Guided by the PCC framework, the research question was: ^What is known about the role of mindfulness interventions in improving medication adherence and self-management among adults with hypertension?^
Methods: The review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA and guided by the PCC framework. Inclusion criteria: (1) peer-reviewed studies published in English between 2015-2025- (2) adult participants with hypertension or elevated blood pressure- (3) interventions or assessments involving mindfulness- (4) outcomes on medication adherence, self-management, or blood pressure- and (5) quantitative, qualitative, or review designs. Exclusion criteria were protocols, commentaries, and studies unrelated to adherence or self-management. Four databases (PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, Web of Science) were systematically searched. From 246 records identified, 18 full texts were screened, and 5 studies met inclusion criteria. Data were charted for study design, intervention, adherence/self-management measures, and blood pressure outcomes.
Results: Two RCTs of Mindfulness-Based Blood Pressure Reduction (MB-BP- n=200 each) improved interoceptive awareness, DASH diet adherence, and reduced systolic blood pressure, but did not directly measure medication adherence. One cross-sectional study (n=68) showed higher mindfulness scores predicted better adherence (MMAS-8). A systematic review/meta-analysis (12 RCTs) confirmed blood pressure reductions and improved self-regulation but lacked adherence-specific endpoints. A narrative review suggested feasibility of mindfulness to support adherence and self-management.
Conclusion: The novelty of this review lies in demonstrating that direct evidence linking mindfulness to antihypertensive medication adherence is almost absent, despite consistent benefits for lifestyle self-management. This critical gap highlights the need for rigorous, culturally adapted trials with validated adherence measures. The impact extends to advancing precision in mindfulness research and guiding integration of low-cost, holistic interventions into community health nursing to overcome persistent barriers in hypertension control.

Abstract

Background:Hypertension is a major public health problem worldwide and remains highly prevalent in Indonesia, particularly in primary healthcare settings. Effective management requires not only pharmacological treatment but also complementary strategies that are accessible, safe, and evidence-based. Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum), widely used in Indonesian traditional medicine, contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils that may exert antihypertensive effects. This study aimed to examine the role of bay leaf decoction in reducing systolic blood pressure among hypertensive patients.

Methods: A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on 15 hypertensive patients aged 45-64 years at Gambut Health Center, Indonesia. Participants received a bay leaf decoction prepared from seven leaves boiled in 200 ml of water, administered once daily for seven consecutive days. Systolic blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using a sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed with a paired t-test.

Results: The findings showed a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure after the intervention (p = 0.000061). Notably, 46.7% of respondents achieved normal blood pressure levels, while the proportion of patients in grade 3 hypertension declined from 26.7% to 13.3%.

Conclusion: This study concludes that bay leaf decoction is effective in lowering systolic blood pressure and can serve as a complementary herbal therapy for hypertension. The integration of traditional herbal remedies with conventional care may enhance hypertension management at the primary healthcare level.

Universitas Jenderal Soedirman

Abstract

Abstract
This systematic literature review (SLR) explores the role of machine learning in dietary and exercise behaviors for type 2 diabetes self-management. While prior studies often examine diet and physical activity separately, their combined impact remains underexplored. Using a systematic search across ten digital libraries (2019-2023), 70 primary studies were identified and assessed through structured quality criteria. Results indicate that machine learning provides effective tools for personalized dietary recommendations, physical activity monitoring, and complication prediction. Algorithms applied include supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised learning, leveraging both public and non-public datasets on dietary patterns, activity levels, and glucose biomarkers. A key research gap was identified: limited studies integrating diet and exercise simultaneously. Addressing this gap is essential for holistic, personalized diabetes care. Overall, integrating machine learning with lifestyle factors shows strong potential to improve self-management, reduce complication risks, and ease healthcare burdens, offering valuable insights for researchers and practitioners.

Nutrition Science Department, Faculty of Health Sciences, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto, Indonesia

Abstract

Metabolic disorders, such as hyperglycemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus, represent a global health concern necessitating effective management strategies, including dietary interventions. This study utilized a High-Fat Diet (HFD) model in Sprague Dawley rats to simulate glucose dysregulation, aiming to evaluate and compare the effects of administering mango (Mangifera indica var. gedong gincu), sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), and red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) juices on blood glucose levels in HFD-induced hyperglycemic rats. Employing a True Experimental design with a randomized controlled pre-posttest approach, 30 rats were randomly divided into five groups: standard diet control (P1), HFD control (P2), HFD + mango juice (P3), HFD + sweet orange juice (P4), and HFD + red dragon fruit juice (P5). Results indicated that HFD induction successfully elevated blood glucose levels in the P2 group, while the administration of all three fruit juices significantly reduced blood glucose in the intervention groups (P3: -33.23%, P4: -41.99%, P5: -44.44%). Red dragon fruit juice demonstrated the most potent glucose-lowering effect, followed by sweet orange juice and mango juice. In conclusion, these findings suggest the potential of these natural fruit juices as valuable dietary interventions for managing HFD-induced glucose dysregulation.
