Abstract
Background: Impaired oxygenation is a common issue in children with respiratory tract diseases, such as pneumonia, and can worsen if not addressed promptly. One non-pharmacological intervention that can help is
right lateral positioning, which can improve oxygen saturation. In addition, a lack of maternal knowledge regarding proper breastfeeding techniques and attachment can hinder exclusive breastfeeding, leading to nutritional deficits in infants. Therefore, breastfeeding education is necessary.
Objective: Impaired oxygenation is a common issue in children with respiratory tract diseases, such as pneumonia, and can worsen if not addressed promptly.
Method: This research is a case study applying Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) using a single-subject study method, which focuses on observing and analyzing changes before and after the intervention. The intervention
was carried out through direct education and demonstration over a period of three days on an infant with pneumonia. Observations were conducted every two hours during a single shift (8 hours).
Results: The results of the study showed an increase in oxygen saturation from 94% to 100%, and an improvement in the mother^s knowledge of breastfeeding, as indicated by the LATCH score, which increased from 6 to 10 over the course of three days.
Conclusion: The implementation of right lateral positioning and breastfeeding technique education was effective in increasing oxygen saturation in an infant with pneumonia and improving the infant^s nutritional status, as
evidenced by the mother^s enhanced knowledge of proper breastfeeding techniq
