Characteristics of the health status of elementary-school children in Samarinda City

Background: The school-age period is crucial for shaping future health outcomes. During this transitional phase, children start to make choices about their preferred lifestyle, making it essential to keep an eye on their progress.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the health status of elementary school students and to investigate the factors associated with this condition in Samarinda City
Methods: The design of this study was a descriptive study. The total sample for this study was 165 children. Data were collected using an interview, anthropometric measurements, and observation of dental hygiene. We employed univariate data analysis to gain insights into health conditions.
Results: The study results showed that 25% of students were undernourished, 12% were overweight, and 2% were obese. Thirty-two percent had dental caries, and 24% had cavities.
Conclusion: According to the results of the study, the health of elementary-school children needs enhancement. Without proper treatment, it may lead to health problems and hinder growth and development.
