Abstract
Background: Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) patients often experience depression due to the long and complex treatment process, which can affect treatment adherence and recovery outcomes. This study aimed to identify determinant factors of depression among MDR-TB patients. Methods: This quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design involved 100 MDR-TB patients at Waled Cirebon Regional General Hospital. Data collection used validated instruments including the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Statistical analysis included chi-square and logistic regression to identify significant determinants. Results: The prevalence of depression was 52%. Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between depression and treatment duration (p = 0.002), comorbidities (p = 0.001), income level (p = 0.019), and social support (p = 0.005). Multivariate logistic regression identified comorbidities (OR = 3.8, 95% CI: 1.7-8.3) and poor social support (OR = 2.9, 95% CI: 1.3-6.6) as dominant factors. Conclusion: Depression in MDR-TB patients is significantly influenced by comorbidities and social support. Holistic treatment approaches addressing both physical and psychosocial factors are recommended.
