The Relationship Between Anxiety and Sleep Quality in Hypertensive Patients at the Budi Sejahtera Elderly Social Protection and Rehabilitation Center (PPRSLU) in Banjarbaru Sari Mulia University, Banjarmasin, Indonesia Abstract The increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia has led to a higher prevalence of hypertension, which is often accompanied by anxiety and sleep disturbances. This study aimed to determine the relationship between anxiety levels and sleep quality among elderly patients with hypertension at the Social Protection and Rehabilitation Center for the Elderly (PPRSLU). A quantitative analytic method with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 26 hypertensive elderly respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Geriatric Anxiety Scale (GAS) to measure anxiety levels and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality, with analysis conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced moderate anxiety (16 people- 61.5%) and poor sleep quality (16 people- 61.5%), with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between anxiety and sleep quality in elderly hypertensive patients. In conclusion, hypertension in the elderly not only causes physical health problems but also affects psychological conditions in the form of anxiety, which can worsen sleep quality. Therefore, managing anxiety is essential to improve sleep quality and prevent further complications in elderly individuals with hypertension.
