Abstract

Family knowledge of triage plays an important role in determining psychological responses when facing emergency situations in hospitals. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between triage knowledge and the anxiety levels of patients^ families in the Emergency Department of Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Indramayu. A correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied. The sample consisted of 54 respondents selected from a total population of 118 using non-probability sampling with the accidental sampling method. Research instruments included a triage knowledge questionnaire, which had been tested for validity and reliability, and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to measure anxiety levels. The normality test indicated that the data were not normally distributed- therefore, Spearman Rank correlation was used for analysis. The results showed a significance value of 0.001 with a correlation coefficient of 0.844, indicating a very strong relationship between triage knowledge and family anxiety levels in the Emergency Department of Mitra Plumbon Hospital, Indramayu. These findings highlight that triage understanding can be a key determinant of family anxiety when dealing with emergency situations.
