Investigating Impacts of Government Pandemic Response Measures on Consumer Behaviors: An Example of E-commerce Market
Anne Yenching Liu, Pei-Yin Liu

National Yunlin University of Science and Technology

Abstract

The sudden arrival of the Covid-19 epidemic has changed people^s shopping habits. In order to curb the continuous spread of the disease, the governments of many countries have resorted to policies of travel restrictions or behavior restrictions, which have affected many industries. E-commerce platforms have become the main tool for people to shop during the pandemic. However, with the emergence of vaccines, the global epidemic situation has slowed down, and people^s lives have gradually returned to the normal track as before the pandemic. This research intended to investigate whether consumers still rely on e-commerce after the epidemic under different epidemic response measures. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) pandemic response measures, e-commerce risks, e-commerce benefits, and consumer intentions were adopted in this research model. This research used confirmatory analyses based on the survey of 335 responses collected in this research. Significant government epidemic response measures are identified as epidemic prevention, crisis management, and response/ recovery measures. Further, their impacts on consumers^ perception of e-commerce were also found to be significant in this research. This research shows the importance of government response measures and contributes to the understanding of consumer shopping behaviors after the pandemic.

Digital Teaching- A distance education perspective
Dr Sonja Rewhorn SFHEA

The Open University (UK)- Digi:&#272-&#7889-i consortium

Abstract

Digital teaching has been developing for several decades. In recent years, it feels digital transformation in higher education is more exponential- accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic. For many educators and higher education institutions (HEI), there was a move to distance (online) teaching overnight. Higher education institutions and educators had to embrace distance education pedagogies at the same time as enhancing their individual competencies to be able to deliver only through the digital. This is not withstanding many HEI courses had virtual learning environments prior to the pandemic. Furthermore, distance education pedagogies are not new. Terry Anderson and Jon Dron in 2011 suggested three generations of distance education pedagogies, all situated within the context of digital technologies of the time. Indeed, these generations have moved on since 2011. This paper discusses digital teaching, focussing on the distance education context. The paper is framed within inclusivity with the opportunities of digital teaching and associated digital transformations, but also the challenges of digital transformation and the importance of ensuring accessibility for all. The discussion will draw on The Open University (UK), as a case study. The Open University (UK) delivers online degree programmes at scale and through digital teaching, however, the opportunities and challenges are relevant to many universities and the Open University continues to contribute to and be part of the wider conversation on digital teaching

Abstract

Traditional banks in Yemen remained licensed to receive various deposits and invest them in whole or in part with the bank^s other assets, or in any other way allowed by law. Referred to as financial organizations that make money by collecting various deposits and reinvesting them in various sectors, or as a middleman for receiving deposits from surplus units and making loans to those units that are in need of money or in the field of investment. Recent governmental and financial instability in the region necessitated research on the impact of banking risks on loan facilities, including capital, interest, and operational risks. During the years 2012 to 2021, financial data was obtained from four banks, and the data were analyzed using the regression approach and a significant test. Inspection of the sample banks and study of financial indicators of capital risk, interest rate risk, and operational risk served the analysis. The association between these banking risks and credit facilities was discovered using statistical approaches. It was found, there remains an inverse relationship between capital risks and credit facilities, also there was an inverse relationship between interest rate risk and credit facilities, and there was no statistically significant relationship between operating risk and credit facility. The size of bad debts facing capital risk along its effect on the volume of credit facilities was studied and the recommendations to improve their performance were proposed.

Abstract

To achieve company goals, labor is an important resource where the presence and quality of labor in accordance with the company^s strategy and operations will improve or develop company performance in the future. The importance of the role of the workforce makes its management equally important because the strategy or method used in managing the workforce can determine its success. This research will focus on the evaluation of labor management in a power plant company that currently has a workforce with two labor statuses, namely permanent labor and outsourced labor. In order to evaluate the labor management in this power plant company, this research uses the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach, with the aim of measuring the efficiency of its labor management, and then providing improvement recommendations for better labor management. The DEA calculation model used is input oriented, which will focus on minimizing inputs with constant outputs. Input variables that are directly related to labor management are the reason for choosing this calculation model. The results of the evaluation show that labor management in the last year of the evaluation was already running optimally. However, the implementation of digitalization in the future could improve efficiency by reducing the number and cost of permanent workers.

Department of Business Management, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Indonesia

Abstract

Work-life balance is the balance of one^s professional and personal lives. Due to their demanding jobs, unpredictable schedules, and heavy workloads, health workers frequently struggle to strike a balance between their professional and personal lives. Conflicts between work obligations and personal needs may result from this imbalance, which in turn may raise stress levels at work. This study employs the bibliometric analysis method by conducting a literature study of relevant books, journals, and articles extracted from Scopus database. The findings indicate a significant relationship between stress at work and work-life balance for healthcare workers. High workloads, a lack of organizational support, and lack of control over work schedules were found to all contribute to health workers experiencing more job stress. Negative effects of an unbalanced work-life schedule include increased levels of exhaustion, depression, and lowered quality of life. Therefore, it is crucial for healthcare organizations to pay attention to the variables that may impact the work-life balance and stress levels of healthcare professionals. Work-life balance can be improved by taking steps like offering psychological assistance, offering employee welfare programs, and setting up a more balanced work schedule.

Abstract

The startup industry in Indonesia is receiving a lot of interest from businesspeople, investors, and researchers. Reliable valuation techniques are essential for investors and business owners alike in Indonesia^s dynamic startup ecosystem. This study maps the structure of startup valuation research in the Indonesian setting using citation analysis, co-citation networks, and keyword grouping. The study also examines how research subjects have changed over time and evaluates the significance of key studies. This study carefully examines the usual traits of new businesses in Indonesia, concentrating on both financial and non-financial factors. Market demand, team expertise, and the regulatory environment are examined along with financial measures like sales growth, profitability, and financing rounds. To illustrate the entire strategy adopted, start-up valuations frequently mix quantitative techniques like discounted cash flow (DCF) with qualitative assessments. However, there are still a number of calculating components that are not standardized when doing assessments at start-ups like PT ABC. PT ABC launched the INC start-up incubation and acceleration program. This initiative provides resources for enhanced market access, financial stability, and digital creativity. The worth of the company determines the funding for PT ABC^s INC program. This bibliometric analysis delivers unique insights into research by syncing and visualizing knowledge networks, helping entrepreneurs, particularly PT ABC, and policy makers to comprehend the existing environment and future direction of startup assessment approaches in Indonesia.

Abstract

Along with the advancement of industrialization, the importance of technology and public policy in resolving all problems in both economically, socially, and ecologically, is expanding and has been discussed as an eco-friendly idea with efficient cost. One of the commodities being highly debated is FABA waste from coal combustion, which have potential for hazardous waste contamination. According to this remark, every
corporate especially critical and main industries in terms of governance must be prudent in dealing with waste concerns. The circular economy idea might be identified as an effort that influences long-term utilization execution. In other way, FABA waster offers numerous potentials for producing raw materials necessary for infrastructure construction, such as ready-mix cement, lightweight brick, paving blocks, and land stabilization. To take actions on opportunities and challenges, there are various
options on treatment such as individual treatment by its personal companies under the industry, recycling into useful commodities and second- or third-party treatment must be selected in terms of cost efficiency, effectiveness on business processes, and beneficiary to other commodities. Therefore, cost benefit rational analysis, in terms of
accrual basis could be determined as part to define what are potential income and expenses which can be mentioned on treatment process beside the effectiveness on project and current abilities in particular company.

Abstract

The person who does not have specific knowledge about natural minerals is tough to identify the types of diamonds that are sourced from natural minerals (natural diamonds), made in a laboratory as synthetic diamonds, or fake diamonds. This condition has problems in the business, especially in using diamonds for jewelry purposes, in which artificial or counterfeit diamonds are often sold at high prices, similar to natural diamonds. Based on these conditions, this study aims to compare three methods of identifying natural, synthetic, and fake diamond types. The diamond identification method uses three testing instruments: The Gemology lab test, the Diamond DK10100 instrument - GemTrue Veritas, and Diamond Selector. The study shows that the testing instrument recommended for the primary reference for identifying diamond types is testing through the Gemology Lab because the test uses three methods using a Refractometer, Gemological Stereo Microscope, and UV light showing accurate test. The results of this study can be used as a reference for selecting the type of testing instrument to the needs of the jewelry industry and individual needs, avoiding the identification of diamond types inappropriately in the aspect of selling prices, type of material, and quality of the diamonds.

Abstract

According to Law Number 24 of 2007 concerning Disaster Management, the definition of disaster is as follows: an event or series of events that threatens and disrupts people^s lives and livelihoods caused, both by natural factors and or non-natural factors as well as human factors, resulting in human casualties, environmental damage, loss of property, and psychological impact. In dealing with this disaster, community preparedness, especially in the area of public transportation, especially the Arjosari Malang bus terminal, is needed to minimize the damage that will be received both physically and materially. Preparedness in question is in the form of special procedure plans, emergency kit equipment, as well as supporting tools in the form of technology in mitigating the disaster. To prepare public function buildings in mitigating fire and earthquake disasters, it is necessary to create an interior design for a bus terminal that is in accordance with the concept of safe by design. This concept will be explored using related theories such as disaster preparedness behavior, protective action decision models, risk perception, theory of planned behavior, and protection motivation theory. The method used in this research is the Literature Review Survey. The results of this research are in the form of an assessment of the interior design of Arjosari which is based on the concept of safe by design and in the form of recommendations for interior design guidelines which we hope will become a reference source that can be applied to bus terminals throughout Indonesia.

Pre-consumption Waste Management Using Modular Interlocking Techniques in Ready-to-Wear Clothing Design with the theme of Gedung Sate
Rachmawaty, S.Pd., M.Ds & Retno Apriyana

Politeknik Negeri Media Kreatif, Jakarta

Abstract

Fashion is one of the industries that plays a major role in generating waste globally. Fashion waste is divided into two, one of which is pre-consumption waste, which is waste cloth left over from the production process that is no longer used, so its value has decreased, but that does not mean there is has no value at all or it cannot be processed anymore. This study aims to explore and find out whether the modular interlocking technique can be used as a fashion waste processing technique, in which modular interlocking is a technique of combining pieces of fabric using locks which then become a larger structural unit. After exploration, the modular interlocking techniques with proper locking and neat cuts can result in a structure that is as strong and neat as if it were patterned new fabric. In addition, the researchers found that in the application of modular interlocking techniques, neat fabric cutting techniques and strong locks were one of the keys to success in making this ready-to-wear clothing. The conclusion based on the research that has been done, the modular interlocking technique using pre-consumed fabric waste can be used as ready-to-wear clothing as an alternative solution to minimize wasted fabric waste which is usually only thrown away into something new with a unique appearance when worn. This technique can be used on any size of the waste cloth as long as the lock is correct, so that it is flexible in the use of the waste cloth. In this study, the author has applied the modular interlocking technique to ready-to-wear clothing using inspiration of Gedung Sate^s entitled ^Beauty of Stack^ by realizing the prototypes of two ready-to-wear looks.

Abstract

Engaging individuals in the process of assembling their furniture is not a novel idea. IKEA has pioneered the concept of a democratic design process that centers on manufacturing furniture with ready-to-assemble components, along with other considerations, allowing for packaging in smaller, more compact forms, facilitating easier transportation and significantly reducing costs, which aligns well with their concept. Expanding upon the experience of assembling and utilizing the furniture, there is an opportunity to transform it into a captivating and pleasurable activity involving individuals or groups. This is where puzzles can play a pivotal role. By integrating puzzles, these interactions can be enhanced or modified while in use or during its assembly offering a different kind of interaction with furniture. Additionally, the need for adhesives, nails, and other similar fasteners can be eliminated by relying on interesting joinery inspired from puzzles. As a part of this design and development process, various types of puzzles were examined, with particular emphasis on the physical and mechanical varieties. These puzzles were deconstructed to comprehend their structure and thereby visualize their solutions. The insights and concepts understood from this were then applied to furniture design. This paper illustrates the exploratory design process of puzzle-inspired furniture design.

Abstract

Batik is a form of wax-resist dyeing that is applied to an entire piece of fabric. In Java, batik is classified into inland and coastal regions based on its spread and development. The incorrect classification of batik will adversely affect the income of certain Indonesian regions due to the significant demand for certain batik designs on the market. There are hundreds of batik cloth motifs throughout Indonesia, each with its name and symbolism. As a result of the large number of batik patterns in Indonesia, it has been difficult for ordinary people, especially those unfamiliar with batik patterns, to identify motifs. Due to the difficulty of distinguishing batik patterns with the human eye, computer scientists have researched the classification of batik patterns using machine learning. Image classification datasets are obtained from Google Images using keywords specific to distinguishing between inland and coastal batiks. The inland and coastal batik were then classified using three machine learning types: Resnet-50, Pretrained Resnet-50, and Pretrained Inception. Results showed that Pretrained ResNet-50 demonstrated the highest performance accuracy at 93%, Resnet-50 had a lower performance accuracy at 81%, and Pretrained Inception had the lowest performance accuracy at 79%. Therefore, this study demonstrated that machine learning has the potential to classify inland and coastal batik and can be applied across various fields by providing a basis for more advanced transfer learning using artificial intelligence, thus facilitating the preservation and understanding of traditional Indonesian clothing.

Vishwakarma University, Pune

Abstract

This research paper delves into the crucial role of material hands-on studies and exploration within the context of design education at the postgraduate level. It highlights the significance of such pedagogy, particularly in design schools that attract students from diverse undergraduate backgrounds, including architecture, design, science, and arts.
The primary objective is to inculcate critical abilities for the discerning use of materials, whether through conventional or unconventional perspectives. A key challenge lies in homogenizing a group of students with varying capacities, skills, and appreciation of materials at the program^s inception to ensure a level playing field for their design exploration journey. Furthermore, the paper explores the additional dimension of material exploration serving as an icebreaker, bridging differences in students^ personalities, gender, class, and socioeconomic backgrounds. To optimize this effect, the material-focused course is preferably introduced at the program^s outset, encouraging early interaction and collaboration among students.
Beyond fostering camaraderie, the course also provides a valuable platform to introduce students to disruptive thinking in materials, allowing them to navigate binaries and explore the personality and form of materials. The research shares insights from the author^s experience conducting the course ^Material Culture^ at the postgraduate entry level for students from diverse backgrounds. It outlines the processes adopted, specific tasks with material appreciation objectives, and the resulting final outcomes. The nature of individual outcomes is discussed, highlighting the diverse achievements of students hailing from fields such as engineering, architecture, science, and arts. Putri Dwitasari, Ardhu Ghiffari Prartiandaka, Christopher Justin J., Laticia Ashila, I Gde Nyoman Ananda Tanaya Vinayaka

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember

Abstract

Kampung Ketandan is one of the oldest tourist villages in Surabaya and still exists among the tall buildings in Surabaya. This village has a history that includes the events of November 10 because it is located in the golden quadrangle of Surabaya. Even though the background of this village has historical value, not many tourists or visitors from outside Surabaya are interested in visiting it. The Surabaya government has renovated Ketandan village into a tourism village, but local residents still don^t have the ability to develop the potential of the tourism sector in this village. Based on the results of the interviews, the residents did not have anything special to attract the attention of the community or be a differentiator among other villages in Surabaya, even though it is strategically located in the heritage area of Jalan Tunjungan, which is visited a lot. As a tourist village, this village still needs to have a strategy and participate in tourism development, especially related to merchandise, because this medium can become a bridge of communication with the community. Therefore, Kampung Ketandan needs a supporting medium in the form of merchandise that will later be marketed so that it can increase the existence of Kampung Ketandan. This design will support potential promotion research topics that have an impact on the economy of a region, which is included in SDG 8.
