Abstract

According to Law Number 24 of 2007 concerning Disaster Management, the definition of disaster is as follows: an event or series of events that threatens and disrupts people^s lives and livelihoods caused, both by natural factors and or non-natural factors as well as human factors, resulting in human casualties, environmental damage, loss of property, and psychological impact. In dealing with this disaster, community preparedness, especially in the area of public transportation, especially the Arjosari Malang bus terminal, is needed to minimize the damage that will be received both physically and materially. Preparedness in question is in the form of special procedure plans, emergency kit equipment, as well as supporting tools in the form of technology in mitigating the disaster. To prepare public function buildings in mitigating fire and earthquake disasters, it is necessary to create an interior design for a bus terminal that is in accordance with the concept of safe by design. This concept will be explored using related theories such as disaster preparedness behavior, protective action decision models, risk perception, theory of planned behavior, and protection motivation theory. The method used in this research is the Literature Review Survey. The results of this research are in the form of an assessment of the interior design of Arjosari which is based on the concept of safe by design and in the form of recommendations for interior design guidelines which we hope will become a reference source that can be applied to bus terminals throughout Indonesia.
