Doctoral Program in Visual Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung
Abstract
Padung-padung is a large, double spiral-shaped jewelry worn by Karo women in the 19th to 20th centuries. This jewelry is worn by Karo women of certain groups as a social status symbol. Currently padung-padung is no longer worn and its existence as part of the cultural history of the Karo tribe is not widely known to the public. Efforts to preserve this cultural artifact need to be done so that its existence does not disappear further. This study aims to describe the various efforts that have been made to revive padung-padung in the present so that its existence as the cultural identity of Karo women in the past can be recognized by the younger generation. The methods used in this study are literature studies and secondary data collection which is then delivered descriptively analytically. Based on the results of the study, it can be known that several efforts in lifting the existence of padung-padung have been done in the creative industry, namely by applying the concept of design and development of padung-padung shapes in the form of two dimensions and three dimensions. Efforts to preserve the culture of the region without eliminating the essence of meaning contained in the culture need to continue to be done to strengthen the nation^s cultural identity.

Abstract
Owing to their distinctive features and remarkable diversity, Nudibranchs have turned into highly popular marine creatures in the scuba diving world and during Underwater Macro Photography activities. This growing popularity is possible to spread to other communities, in particular as part of the efforts to protect and conserve the environment. By establishing Nudibranchs as cultural objects, and part of the urban culture, the popularity of Nudibranchs can reach the wider society. This, in turn, would bring a positive impact into the scuba diving world, while also indirectly contributing to the marine life protection and conservation efforts, in particular of the deep sea of Indonesia. Illustration is used as the medium because, as a visual artifact, it is considered to be having quite reliable and broad visual communication capabilities and possessing such flexibility that allows for further expressions in other visual communication applications.

Abstract
This research will analyze Ethnic-Based Diplomacy Studies based on the Historical Experience of Indonesian Independence. This research is based on a long-term study related to the history of the struggle of Indonesian diplomats who tried to achieve Indonesian sovereignty during independence. In the early days of independence, recognition of sovereignty was very difficult to achieve. At that time, apart from war, to gain recognition of Indonesia^s sovereignty was carried out with the politics of diplomacy. In the context of diplomacy, apart from Javanese ethnicity, Minangkabau ethnicity is considered to have an important role in the context of the Indonesian struggle. In addition, Minangkabau was also recorded in history as one of the ethnic groups in the Indonesian Youth Organization in 1928 which eventually became the pioneer of Indonesian independence. The prowess of these diplomats can be considered as the strength of cultural diplomacy possessed by Indonesia, where their ability to dialogue and negotiate carried out by Minangkabau diplomats is part of the teachings taught in Minangkabau culture. This study will analyze the contribution of Minangkabau diplomats during the era of Indonesian independence. In the context of diplomacy, the Minangkabau people^s ability in diplomacy has an extraordinary track record, this is evidenced by the many diplomats from Minangkabau who succeeded in assisting Indonesia in fighting for Indonesian sovereignty during independence, such as Mohammad Hatta (1902), Sutan Sjahrir (1909), Muhammad Natsir ( 1908), H. Agus Salim (1884). Referring to the understanding of diplomacy presented by Wilfried Bolewski (2008) in a paper entitled ^Diplomatic Processes and Cultural Variations: Cultural Relevance in Diplomacy^, this study seeks to explain how culture influences the diplomatic process carried out by several countries, including in Indonesia. It is explained that there are at least six components in diplomacy that need to be considered.

Londokampung^s Preference of Acculturation Strategies Represented through The Language Choice Farah Anjanillah, Sailal Arimi
Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada
farah.anjanillah[at]mail.ugm.ac.id, sailal_arimi[at]ugm.ac.id
Abstract
In this globalization era, there are many sociolinguists who put vast interests in exploring the issue about a diaspora or a group of people undertaking a transnational dispersion. Migrating transnationally might lead the diaspora to a tension for accommodating their languages and cultures with the host community, so that they might coexist. From this phenomenon, the researchers of this study were attracted to delve Londokampung^s preference of acculturation strategies to live in Surabaya, Indonesia. To obtain this goal, the researchers implemented Berry^s acculturation strategies theory (1992). The parameter used to uncover the preference of acculturation strategies is the language choice. Hence, this study also employed Fishman^s tenet (1972) on the domains of language choice. Pertaining to the design, this study adopted a qualitative case study. Additionally, this study analyzed the spoken data demonstrating Londokampung^s language choice in the family and friendship domain. Those data were collected from Londokampung Youtube channel. The results of the study exhibit that Londokampung as an Australian diaspora prefers to adopt an integration strategy to acculturate in Surabaya. This is because he appears to still maintain to use English as an identity projection in the family domain. Notwithstanding, he also seems to use Javanese and Indonesian language in the friendship domain as a sign of blending with the host society. That sort of language choice is possibly underlain by numerous factors such as the participant, group membership, linguistic repertoire, topic and function of the interaction, degree of formality, setting, social distance, and non-participating audience factor.

The Variation of Indonesian language using Javanese Affixation in Malang Rosalina Tsalis Rahayuningtyas, Bernardinus Realino Suryo Baskoro
Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada
Abstract
This study explores the forms and the cause of morphological interference, especially affixation of Javanese into the Indonesian language used by Javanese speakers in Malang. Sources of data in this study are words that contain of Javanese affixation in Indonesian used by Javanese speakers in Malang that were observed from social media. The google form spread to the participants, and 30 participants were chosen to support the data. Weinrich^s (1) notion of interference was used in this study to explain interference factors. For analyzing the Javanese affixation, the notion of Norlina et al. (2) regarding word formation in Javanese was used to analyze the data.. The results reveal that six prefixes produce verbs: /tak-/, /n-/, -m-/, /-/, /-/, and /k-/. Meanwhile, five suffixes have been discovered: /-e/ and /-ne/, /-a/ and /-na/, and /-n/. Furthermore, Indonesian^s most common Javanese Affixes are /-a/, /-na/, and /-n/. All of the findings are in the active voice, except one prefix /ke-/ that expresses passive voice. The primary cause of the interference is that the speakers are bilingual whose parents are mostly all native Javanese speakers. As a result of mother tongue effect, the variety was accidentally formed. Another issue that Weinrich did not mention is making it easier to convey the message and demonstrating pride in one^s local identity.
