Abstract

The beach area in the Tombawatu Village was one of the most famous tourist destinations in Konawe Regency. However, due to lack of public facilities and prolonged pandemic condition, the Tombawatu Beach area is slowly becoming less popular. Tombawatu Village is currently targeted to support Sustainable Development Goals through its tourism activities. The United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) have set 4 (four) main criteria for achieving sustainable tourism in which promotion as well as energy use are crucial. This study aims to transfer technologies in the form of solar-powered LED street light and landmark as the tools to support sustainable tourism along the Tombawatu Beach. This study uses an action research method consisting of the following stages: diagnosing, action planning, action taking, evaluating, and specifying learning. The whole stages have been conducted in collaboration with Tombawatu people such that the design can meet sustainability criteria as well as their local attributes as fishermen. Based on interview conducted to the locals and recent visitors of the beach, it is found that they are really satisfied with installed street light and landmark. They also agreed that these facilities are very attractive and useful so that they will post it in their social media accordingly. In conclusion, integration of renewable energy sources and iconic facilities can help boosting sustainable tourism especially with the help of social media and internet.
