Abstract

This study was an initial attempt of using Alih Wahana method in gaining design student^s understanding of art history through online learning based, to what extent the concept of artefact transformation from a movie to other design form could reach the gap between student outcomes during the Covid-19 pandemic and onsite learning. All data gathered from qualitative approaches, with approximately 70 Visual Communication Design students involved. There were three main focus areas of this study, including: the juxtaposition between onsite and online learning towards student behavior, the semiotic analysis of student^s artwork through Alih Wahana method, and the sustainable learning evaluation. The result shows that the concept of Alih Wahana has helped students to deliver the historical content to nowadays generation without abolishing the former meaning, there was a significant improvement of student^s critical ability due to independent learning through digital platform although the miss-communication and time management issue have raised, yet all learning activities that are saved on the digital storage have helped lecturers as a facilitator in developing teaching tools and method in a future. All pros and cons in study findings have motivated the researchers to do an in-depth study of art history multichannel learning in a further research.
