Abstract

This study explores the forms and the cause of morphological interference, especially affixation of Javanese into the Indonesian language used by Javanese speakers in Malang. Sources of data in this study are words that contain of Javanese affixation in Indonesian used by Javanese speakers in Malang that were observed from social media. The google form spread to the participants, and 30 participants were chosen to support the data. Weinrich^s (1) notion of interference was used in this study to explain interference factors. For analyzing the Javanese affixation, the notion of Norlina et al. (2) regarding word formation in Javanese was used to analyze the data.. The results reveal that six prefixes produce verbs: /tak-/, /n-/, -m-/, /-/, /-/, and /k-/. Meanwhile, five suffixes have been discovered: /-e/ and /-ne/, /-a/ and /-na/, and /-n/. Furthermore, Indonesian^s most common Javanese Affixes are /-a/, /-na/, and /-n/. All of the findings are in the active voice, except one prefix /ke-/ that expresses passive voice. The primary cause of the interference is that the speakers are bilingual whose parents are mostly all native Javanese speakers. As a result of mother tongue effect, the variety was accidentally formed. Another issue that Weinrich did not mention is making it easier to convey the message and demonstrating pride in one^s local identity.
