Abstract
PIslamic teachings encompass principles of environmental stewardship, reflected in sub-disciplines such as ecotheology, ecopesantren, and fiqh bi^ah (environmental jurisprudence). While environmental themes are present in Islamic Religious Education at universities, community-based preachers (dai or ustaz) rarely emphasize environmental awareness in their sermons. This study aimed to enhance the capacity of preachers to promote environmentally conscious values through mentoring and training programs within Islamic study groups (Majlis Taklim).
The program involved academic experts in environmental awareness and was attended by 39 participants, including 22 students from the MUI Ulama Cadre Education program and 17 sub-district representatives. Activities comprised lectures, interactive discussions, and pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Of the 26 respondents who completed the questionnaires, results showed a significant improvement in understanding Islamic teachings on environmental care and a strengthened commitment to integrating environmental messages into da^wah. These findings suggest that targeted preacher training can serve as an effective strategy to promote environmental responsibility within Muslim communities.
