The Level of Fundamental Locomotor Skills in 8-Year-Old Elementary School Children

Abstract

Abstract. This research was conducted to determine the level of fundamental locomotor skills. The study focused on fundamental locomotor skills, including walking, running, galloping, jumping, sliding, hopping, skipping, and leaping. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, using a survey method with a single variable, without making comparisons or linking it to other variables. The sample consisted of 53 students from Rawamangun Elementary School 9. The instrument for measuring fundamental locomotor skills was a puzzle game, developed by the researcher.
The data analysis technique used in this study was descriptive statistics. This technique involved calculating the mean, median, mode, percentage, frequency distribution, and standard deviation to describe and analyze the level of students^ fundamental locomotor skills. The results showed that the majority of 8-year-old students possess fundamental locomotor skills such as walking, running, and jumping at a ^sufficient^ to ^good^ level. Some students demonstrated mastery of more complex skills, such as skipping and leaping, with greater variability. Minor differences were observed between genders, and the mean results indicated consistency in basic skills, although some students require further development.
In conclusion, most 8-year-old children at Rawamangun Elementary School 9 have fundamental locomotor skills at an adequate level for their age, although there is variation in the mastery of more complex skills. Some children require additional intervention to develop specific locomotor skills. These findings can assist in designing more targeted physical education programs.
