Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia

Abstract

Numeracy is emphasized as a basic literacy that can help students think criti-cally and creatively through strategies across fields of study. However, until now numeracy literacy in the field of education is still limited to the fields of natural sciences and medicine. There has been no research that specifically examines this in the field of civic education. In fact, civic education has ma-terial construction that can be presented with numerical data to help students think critically and creatively. This research aims to analyze the idea of civic education opportunities based on numeracy literacy in strengthening stu-dents^ critical thinking and creativity skills. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. The literature studied is the civic education curriculum of universities in Indonesia. The data is then processed and presented in an analytical narrative. Based on the results and discussion, it is known that the structure of civic education material has the substance of studies in the social sphere of citizenship, with various social dynamics or problems that can be presented in numerical form, either in the form of graphs, charts or tables. The presentation of numerical data is very crucial in helping strengthen students^ critical thinking abilities and creativity. Thus, it can be concluded that civic education has a great opportunity to strengthen students^ critical thinking and creativity skills through optimizing numeracy which is integrated into the civic education learning model
