The Improvement Of Students Critical Thinking Skills Through The Application Of Audio-Visual-Based Value Clarification Technique

Abstract

The issue in this study relates to the low critical thinking skills of students. During the Civics learning process, students exhibited hesitation and lack of confidence in expressing their opinions, fear when questioned, anxiety, confusion about what to do, and a tendency to let things happen without taking action. This strategy is applied to improve critical thinking skills using the Value Clarification Technique through audio-visual media. The research method used is quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design and a quantitative approach. The research subjects consisted of 45 eighth-grade students from Class VIII B at SMP Ciledug Al-Musaddadiyah, Garut. The results showed that the average pretest score was only 60, while after the implementation of the Value Clarification Technique through audio-visual media, the average posttest score increased to 85.37. Thus, it can be concluded that learning using the Value Clarification Technique through audio-visual media can improve students^ critical thinking skills in the Civics subject at SMP Ciledug Al-Musaddadiyah, Garut. The observed critical thinking abilities in students include the ability to express opinions without fear of being wrong, the courage to speak in front of others, and the ability to identify and solve problems according to the topics taught by the teacher.
