Dynamics of Political Education and Democratic Participation in 3T (Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged) Areas: A Case Study of Mentawai Senior High School Cici Nur Azizah Ridwan Al Rafni Suryanef

Abstract
As one of the regions facing significant geographical and social challenges, Mentawai becomes an important representation in understanding how political education can influence democratic participation in remote areas. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, where data is collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The results show that political education at SMAN 2 Sikakap still experiences various obstacles, such as limited resources, lack of access to information, and low political awareness among students. Nonetheless, the existing education program has made a positive contribution in improving basic knowledge about democracy and the importance of political participation. Student participation in school democracy activities, such as the election of student council leaders, shows enthusiasm, although it does not yet fully reflect broader political participation in society.
This study concludes that despite significant challenges, political education in the 3T (Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged) areas, particularly at SMAN 2 Sikakap, has great potential to shape a younger generation that is more aware of the importance of democratic participation. Recommendations are given for improving the quality of political education through teacher training, provision of relevant materials, and increased access to political information for students. Thus, more effective political education is expected to increase democratic participation in remote areas such as Mentawai.
