Abstract
In an era dominated by digital interactions, understanding ethical behavior on social media is crucial, particularly among university students who are active users of these platforms. This study investigates the role of digital citizenship education in shaping ethical social media behavior among students at Universitas Terbuka. A quantitative approach was adopted, utilizing a survey distributed to 100 students enrolled at Universitas Terbuka. The survey assessed participants^ understanding of digital citizenship concepts, their engagement with social media, and their perceptions of ethical behavior in online interactions. The findings reveal that students who received formal education on digital citizenship displayed significantly higher awareness of ethical standards on social media compared to those who did not. Additionally, 78% of respondents reported that digital citizenship education positively influenced their online behavior, promoting respect and accountability in their interactions. This study highlights the critical role of digital citizenship education in fostering ethical social media behavior among university students. The results underscore the necessity for higher education institutions to integrate digital citizenship into their curricula, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required to navigate the digital landscape responsibly. Future research should explore long-term impacts and potential variations across different demographics.
