THE ROLE OF CIVIC EDUCATION IN CARING FOR LOCAL WISDOM IN TANAH MANDAR Abdul Latief, Abd.Rahman

Abstract
Civic Education has a central role in building the character of the younger generation through local wisdom owned by the Indonesian nation. Local wisdom is a unique cultural expression that contains values, ethics, norms, rules and skills of a community in meeting the challenges of sustainability.
The purpose of this study is to determine the role of civic education in maintaining and preserving local wisdom in Tanah Mandar. The education system taught in schools and universities is expected to be able to encourage students and students to implement the values contained in the main material taught by educators and lecturers and be able to foster a high sense of love for the homeland. This study uses a qualitative research method obtained through a literacy process from various books, articles, and journals related to the material discussed. The results of this study indicate that the role of civic education in maintaining local wisdom in Tanah Mandar is very much needed so that students and students can have an attitude of respect for culture, customs inherited from ancestors so as to give birth to an attitude of tolerance, mutual respect, and respect for every difference that exists in this nation.
