Building Awareness of Global Citizenship on Social Activities at Ambu Cancer Fighters House Foundation Through Education Courses

Abstract

A crucial element in shaping responsible and active citizens is the awareness of global citizenship. Educational institutions play an important role not only in the cognitive aspect, but in the affective and psychomotor domains. Cognitive aspects are easily obtained in learning classes. While affective and psychomotor are still a challenge in their integration. Ambu Cancer Fighters House Foundation which is located at Jalan Bijaksana Dalam, Number 11, Pasteur, Sukajadi District, Bandung city provides a forum for students to get involved in social activities. Activities that provide the potential to build awareness of global citizenship. This study explores the impact of social activities on students ^ Global Citizenship awareness, especially through value education courses. The study also aims to identify key citizenship values developed through participation in such activities and evaluate the overall impact of global citizenship awareness on students. Using participatory observation and in-depth interviews, this study used a qualitative methodology. The information was collected after participating actively in social activities at the Ambu Cancer Fighters House Foundation in value education classes. Using thematic analysis, important themes emerging from the data are discovered, offering deep insights into student perspectives and experiences with the awakening of global citizenship awareness. The results showed a significant increase in awareness of global citizenship in students, especially with regard to principles such as solidarity, social responsibility, and empathy. Taking part in foundation activities gives students real-world experiences that support the theoretical ideas they learn in class. Students have a better knowledge of global citizenship awareness with civic responsibility and are more involved in society. Thus learning is balanced and holistic by integrating cognitive, affective, and psychomotor.
