PASSIVE COOLING DESIGN ON SEA PASSENGER TERMINAL

Abstract

Explore an Eco-technology concept that can be implemented in the new building of the Tanjung Perak Surabaya passenger terminal area. In data collection, explorative qualitative methods were used to obtain compatible eco-technology principles for marine passenger terminal buildings in the area. The variables that are considered are spatial planning, technology that considers ecology, energy-saving systems, connection to the site and orientation. Exploration results show that the use of an air circulation/passive cooling system as natural ventilation is included in the eco-technology concept as a representation of environmentally friendly architecture. The use of materials and the application of openings in light steel and glass curtain walls to create an element of elements of modernism in buildings and their function to cool the room in the building by means of passive cooling have been proven to be effective in reducing the cooling load of buildings. In addition, this method can also create conditions of thermal comfort, improve indoor air quality, and require much lower energy consumption than the use of air conditioning.
