Abstract

Orange-dotted tuskfish Choerodon anchorago is a wrasse that is classified as a fishing target fish. Juvenile Orange-dotted tuskfish are caught as ornamental fish, while adult Orange-dotted tuskfish are caught for consumption. Its high economic value makes the Orange-dotted tuskfish Choerodon anchorago an important fishing target. If this fishing is not controlled, it can cause an ecological imbalance in the coral reef ecosystem. This study aims to examine variations in sex ratio, stage maturity, and first maturity in the Orange-dotted tuskfish Choerodon anchorago population on the Wallacea Line, Makassar Strait, Indonesia. Parameters observed were sex ratio, maturity stage, and first maturity. The results revealed variations in reproductive biology parameters of Orange-dotted tuskfish Choerodon anchorago in Spermonde Islands, Indonesia, in the three years of the study from 2018 to 2020. These variations in reproductive biology parameters indicate that there is an indication of overfishing of Orange-dotted tuskfish Choerodon anchorago exploited in Wallacea Line, Makassar. Straits, Indonesia
