Abstract
This study examines the representation of multicultural spirit of the selected poetry in the The Best American Poetry anthology. Like Indonesian society and culture, which is very diverse, America is also a country formed from diverse immigrants which later became known as the nation of all nations. The problem is how the voices of the poets in voicing diversity which still causing tragedies like the case of the murder of George Floyd. The purpose of this study is to explore the different motivations of ethnically various diverse poets through their works in voicing the multicultural spirit of diverse society and culture. This descriptive qualitative research data collection process will be carried out by collecting data through semiotic reading and analysis. The material resulting from this analysis is then examined through the concept of multiculturalism spirit which carries the idea of equality in diversity along with an attitude of respect for it. The expected result of this research is an increase both theoretically and practically in understanding the spirit of multiculturalism in dealing with diversity. It is also expected to be very useful in increasing the students multicultural literacy. Hopefully, that it will be understood and be an inspiration on how to optimally and sustainably increase the motivation in celebrating diversity, not only in relation with race, but also other differences that sometimes cause conflict in society wherever the learners live.
