Abstract
The exoticism of the Bugis ethnicity is able to color the lives of the people of Pulau Seribu Regency, DKI Jakarta Province. Especially in the District of South Pulau Seribu. Starting from how . the migration of the Bugis in the 18th century which had brought them to wander to the West and their place of origin in Sulawesi during the Dutch Colonial era when the VOC was still in power in South Sulawesi. Strong distribution occurred in Sumatra and Batavia, besides the Bugis are also famous for their skilled sailors who can sail as far as Madagascar. Pulau Seribu, especially Tidung Island, is an archipelagic area which is of course very intimate with the Bugis people. Bugis people who like fishing, of course, find that the island area can be used as a decent place to live to be able to become fishermen and make boats. This research was dissected with commodification theory and sharpened by using the Oral Tradition Method. The commodification theory was chosen to obtain information about Bugis Culture which is used as a means to develop tourism in the South Pulau Seribu Regency, especially Tidung Island. The Oral Tradition method is used to obtain information since when Bugis Culture has contested in public, as well as to criticize whether the commodification of Bugis Culture is detrimental to the community or on the contrary, they benefit from the Bugis Culture being exhibited. This research is based on two groups of data, namely primary data and secondary data. The technique used for primary data collection is participatory observation and interviews, and also uses developed oral story sources. Secondary data is collected from various places and includes published works, research results, and government reports related to the problems studied. The population that is used as the focus is the people of Tidung Island who are still of Bugis descent.
