THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF THE SUNDANESE COMMUNITY IN THE FORM OF TOPONYMS IN THE LYRICS OF THE CIANJURAN SONG: AN ETHNOLINGUISTIC STUDY

Abstract

This study aimes to (1) describe the tophonyms in the lyrics of the songs in Cianjuran songs and (2) values of cultural for its owner as the collective memory of the Sundanese community in the form of toponyms in the lyrics of the Cianjuran song. This study uses a descriptive method by taking into account the socio-cultural factors that developed in West Java (with an ethnographic approach from Spreadley: 2013). The source of research data is taken from the lyrics contained in so many classic Sundanese songs (Cianjuran songs), originating from cassettes or VCD/MP-3, media visual, electronic, and literature, as well as interviewing art actors in the fieldwith method ethnography. Then, data collection uses listening, noting, and analytical techniques by analyzing its topography) with the cultural values that live in Sundanese society. Based on the theme, the lyrics of song Cianjuran have a toponym with the theme: (a) Historical (historical) and events, (b) Divine Majesty, (c) Culture, (d) Figure, (e) Beauty of nature (flora, fauna, mountain), and (f) Element of water or maritime, and (g) Self-name.
