Abstract
Mudik is a socio-cultural phenomenon that is ingrained and has become a tradition in Indonesian society. The tradition has taken root even when the Coronavirus outbreak is life-threatening, people keep going home. that the Mudik tradition is prohibited, what we need to think about is Mudik for economic reasons. As for Mudik due to tradition, it is forbidden. The tradition of Sungkeman every Eid can be overcome because it is not a basic need that makes people have no choice of life or death. Such traditions can be postponed. Halal bihalal can be postponed if the situation is like this is facing this pandemic.
Some observers say that Mudik is a counter stream (migration backflow). Choosing to migrate must make preparations for psychological changes. Of course, all of the customs at home cannot be applied in several metropolitan cities such as Jakarta and Surabaya.
This study aims to explore the expression of people in Indonesia to understanding that comes from subjective knowledge can affect the actions that are realized with mudik. The rationality or irrationality of action really depends on who sees and understands and interprets the action. It is at this point that the rational choice aspect enters the point of view of decisions that are more oriented towards individual interests with or without considering other parties outside of themselves. In the midst of a pandemic, this kind of economic dimension is deeply disturbed. It^s hard to replace anything. Constructing a social perception that he works very well, has abundant income, and Mudik becomes a moment of sharing. No wonder there are still many people who are desperate to go home. One of the reasons is about affirming this identity.
