Abstract

The growth rate in various development and population growth sectors continues to increase, so groundwater exploitation has increased. Development activities can not be separated from the availability of groundwater. The importance of groundwater has been felt for sustainable development in various sectors such as residential, agriculture, fisheries, industry, tourism, trade, etc. Their activities require eligible groundwater both in quantity and quality. Drilled wells data in Balikpapan shows the optimum discharge value ranging between 8.2 to 25.2 L/s, the groundwater level is about 4 to 23 meters above sea level, and flow direction generally flows from north to south. Based on the map sheet Hydrogeology Map of Indonesia, Balikpapan lithological conditions consist of sandstones, sandy claystone, shale, and conglomerate, with inserts napal, coal, and limestone low to moderate conductivity. The population until the year 2023 shows the population of the district. South Balikpapan increased to 154,586 inhabitants, with domestic water needs 275.32 L/s, non-domestic 55.06 L/s, and industrial 28.46 L/s. East Balikpapan projected 91,201 inhabitants with domestic water needs 110.83 L/s, non-domestic 21.11 L/s, and industrial 119.57 L/s. North Balikpapan population projections are 191,032 inhabitants with domestic water needs 331.65 L/s, non-domestic 66.33 L/s, and industrial 170.46 L/s. West Balikpapan population projections are 111,044 inhabitants with domestic demand 192.78 L/s, non-domestic 38.56 L/s, and industrial 1,383.91 L/s. Central Balikpapan population projections 120,278 with domestic demand 208.82 L/s, non-domestic 41.76 L/s, and industrial 115.87 L/s. Balikpapan are 87,609 inhabitants with domestic water needs 106.47 L/s, non-domestic 20.28 L/s, and industrial 129.94 L/s
