Exploring the Role of Nurses in Oral Dental Hospitals: Literature Review

Abstract

Objective: One of the roles of nurses in the hospital is to provide oral care so that the purpose of this study is to systematically explore and describe the role of nurses in dental and oral hospitals.
Methods: This research method is a literature review with a systematic literature search conducted on 4 databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect and ProQuest articles in the last 10 years in English and related to the role of nurses in dental and oral hospitals.
Results: Based on 8 articles analyzed, the role of nurses in dental and oral hospitals consists of three steps, namely Oral assessment, health promotion and education such as providing counseling related to oral health and providing oral care. So it must be supported by education or training on oral assessment, health promotion and oral care.
Conclusion: The role of nurses is important in dental and oral hospitals as caregivers and conducting assessments. Thus adequate knowledge, attitudes and practices are required by nurses to provide effective oral health care
