PREVALENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF ATRIAL FIBRILATION IN MAKASSAR CITY POPULATION : A TELEMEDICINE STUDY

Abstract

Abstract
Objective : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most commonly occuring arrhythmia and major modifiable risk factor for stroke, especially in woman. incidence of AF in Indonesia is not well-characterized yet. This is a community-based study to determine the prevalence and characteristics of AF in the Makassar city population.
Method : This is a cross-sectional study conducted between January 2014 - September 2018 using Telemedicine data from Hasanuddin University Hospital.
Result : This study includes 19.718 ECGs from our telemedicine database. AF was found in 189 ECGs (0.96%) Ashman phenomenon is found in 2 adult and 3 elderly patients.
Conclusion: The prevalence of AF in Makassar population is 0.96%, more common in men than in women. Elderly is the largest age group with findings of 46.6%. The Ashman phenomenon is found more often found in the adult and elderly.
