Abstract

Hand body lotion is a cosmetic preparation that is applied to the hands and body. One of the active substances contained in hand body lotion is antioxidant compounds. Robusta green coffee beans (Coffea canephora var. Robusta) have high antioxidant properties because they contain alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids, steroids, and phenols. The purpose of this study was to make a hand body lotion from robusta green coffee bean extract and to determine the evaluation of the resulting hand body lotion.
This research used experimental methods, the formulation of robusta green coffee bean extract hand body lotion using triethanolamine concentration variations of 1%, 2.5%, and 3.5% as an emulgator. Evaluation of the lotions made includes organoleptic tests, acidity (pH), viscosity, dispersibility, adhesion and determination lotion type.
The research data were analyzed statistically using SPSS One Way Anova and Kruskal Wallis Test to determine the effect of variations in triethanolamine concentrations on each test, seen from the significant value in formulas I, II and III. The results showed that robusta green coffee bean extract can be formulated in hand body lotion, all formulas met the requirements. For the best formula from the test results, namely formula II with organoleptic test results in thick form, distinctive smell of coffee, and green color, homogeneity test obtained a homogeneous preparation, viscosity test with an average value of 3866.66 Cps. Spread with an average value of 5.7cm, pH test with an average value of 6.25, adhesion test with an average value of 1.04sec and the type of oil-in-water lotion. The conclusion of this study is formula II is the best and meets the evaluation requirements of hand body lotion with a triethanolamine concentration of 2.5%.
