Abstract

Leadership is the ability of a leader to influence and motivate others to achieve common goals, whereby others are willing to do something voluntarily. Leaders with high emotional intelligence tend to create a positive work atmosphere, build solid communication, and increase team motivation and enthusiasm. The study used a systematic literature review (SLR) of 30 articles related to the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness. Using qualitative methods, this study aimed to further analyse the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness. This study proves that self-awareness, motivation, empathy, and social skills are closely related in the context of leadership. In addition, this study also reveals that the development of emotional intelligence has not been a major focus in human resource development. Thus, it is important to prioritise the development of emotional intelligence in leadership training programmes so that organisations can adapt to ongoing changes
