Application of The Problem-Based Learning Model to Improve Mathematical Communication Ability of Senior High School Students Silmi Ghaida, Al Jupri, Suhendra

Abstract
Mathematical communication ability is one of the important competencies in learning mathematics. However, facts in the field show that students^ mathematical communication ability in Indonesia are still low. This research aims to determine the achievement and improvement of the mathematical communication ability of students with a Problem-Based Learning model, higher than students with a conventional learning model. This research is a quantitative research using a quasi-experimental method. The research design used was a pretest-posttest non-equivalent group design. The population in this study was tenth-grade high school students in one of the high schools in Bandung City, with two classes being the research samples chosen by a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were test instruments, in the form of mathematical communication ability questions, and non-test instruments, in the form of observation sheets. The results showed that: 1) the achievement of mathematical communication ability of students with a Problem-Based Learning model, higher than students with a conventional learning model- 2) the improvement of mathematical communication ability of students with a Problem-Based Learning model, higher than students with a conventional learning model.
