Analyzing Genre-Based Descriptive Writing Materials with Hypermedia Universitas Negeri Jakarta Abstract The purpose of this study is to obtain the need to develop teaching materials for writing descriptive texts based on a genre-based approach (GBA) with hypermedia for grade VII students of junior high school/MTs. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a data analysis method, this study involved 64 students of Class VII MTs Negeri 20 Jakarta and two Indonesian teachers as respondents. The data of this study was collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The findings of this study indicate that there are shortcomings in students^ ability to write descriptive texts, especially in the development of ideas, text structure, and vocabulary. Teachers tend to rely on conventional methods and rely on textbooks and powerpoint presentations, while the application of GBA stages and the use of hypermedia is still limited. There is a high demand with a percentage of 81.11% for digital media that is integrated with the GBA stage. The results of this study confirm the need for teaching materials for writing hypemedia-based descriptive texts that are interactive, flexible, multimodal, and can provide quick feedback. This development is expected to be a solution to the literacy gap in the digital era so that it can improve the skills of writing coherent and creative descriptive texts.
