Abstract

Background: Children who experience growth and development disorders indicate chronic disease and are also characterized by stunting. The stunting indicator is seen using the Z-score of body length according to age. Knowledge, attitudes and practices are factors that can influence stunting prevention.
Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding stunting prevention with the incidence of stunting in children aged 3-5 years at Cahaya Pengharapan Abadi Education, Deli Serdang Regency.
Methods: The research design used was a cross-sectional design with a total of 45 children aged 3 to 5 years at Cahaya Pengharapan Abadi Education, Deli Serdang Regency. The subject taking technique was total sampling. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices were obtained through questionnaires. Height and weight data were analyzed using WHO Anthro Plus to determine the Z-score of body length according to age. Data analysis used the Spearman test to determine the relationship between variables.
Results: The number of stunted children is 26.7%, while the number of non-stunting children is 73.3%. Mothers who have children aged 3 to 5 years have a high level of nutritional knowledge, namely 24 (53.3%). Attitudes in the high category were 25 (55.6%), while practices in the high category were only 3 (6.7%). The results of the bivariate test (Spearman Correlation) show that there is a relationship between knowledge and practices (p<0.05).
Conclusions: There is a relationship between knowledge and practices regarding stunting prevention with the incidence of stunting in children aged 3-5 years at Cahaya Pengharapan Abadi Education, Deli Serdang Regency.
