Abstract

The game of table tennis is a type of sport that has many benefits for those who play it, but at school this game is less actively played by students due to limited equipment. This research aims to test the effectiveness of BMP (Basic Movement Pattern) based tools in improving basic spin technique skills for beginner players. The BMP-based tool is the result of development research carried out previously. The method used in the experimental method. The number of samples involved in this research was 60 students and 30 students were in the experimental group and 30 students were in the control group. The research was carried out in May-August 2022 at Medan State University. Research data was collected through spin skill tests and analyzed using a percentage formula.
The research results showed that after being given learning treatment. As mentioned previously in this assessment skill there are three phases that are the focus of the assessment, namely the initial phase, implementation phase and follow-up phase. For this third phase, it can be seen that the experimental group in the initial phase obtained an average score of 93.8, the implementation phase 90.2 and the follow-up phase 87.8. Meanwhile, the control group in the initial phase obtained an average score of 85, the implementation phase 79.2 and the follow-up phase 80.8. Based on these data, it can be seen that students who were taught basic table tennis spin techniques using BMP-based tools had better skills compared to the basic table tennis spin techniques of the group of students who learned using conventional tools. In this way, this BMP-based tool can be a reference for educators who want to teach table tennis
