Abstract

Quartz sand glass doped with Nd3+ ions yields a wide range of applications in the optical field. Glass with quartz sand is made by Melt Quenching method with chemical composition of 5 quartz sand + (55-x)B2O3 + 10 BaO + 30 Na2O + 0.5 Nd2O3 and 5 SiO2 + (55-x)B2O3 + 10 BaO + 30 Na2O + 0.5 Nd2O3. The glass samples were characterized based on density, refractive index, XRD, FTIR, and Absorption Spectra. The refractive index and molar volume were higher for quartz sand samples compared to silica borate. XRD spectra were used to determine the structural properties of the glass medium samples, FTIR was recorded from wavelengths of 6500-4000 cm-1. The absorption spectrum can be observed in the UV-Vis-NIR region from 300-100 nm and in the absorption spectrum 11 transition peaks were found in the emission spectrum there are 3 emission peaks in the glass sample with a wavelength of 800 nm - 1500 nm and the presence of decay time.
