Abstract

The research aims to develop teaching materials and measure their effectiveness in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of Civil Engineering students. This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes in engineering mathematics courses, especially in integral material. In general, studying mathematics material requires problem-solving abilities in the context of everyday life. Contextual mathematics teaching materials are needed to help understand concepts, especially integral material to be developed using Artificial Intelligence in learning. This research was conducted on civil engineering students at the Faculty of Engineering, Medan State University. This type of research is research and development. This research procedure refers to the Rowntree development model. The data analysis included the teaching materials^ validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research results show that: 1) expert validation of the suitability of mathematics teaching materials was obtained in the outstanding category with details of material experts with an average score of 78.89, media experts with an average score of 84.73 and linguists with an average score of 78.28, 2) lecturers^ responses about The practicality of mathematics teaching materials were obtained in the convenient category with the average score is 85.47 and 3) the use of mathematics teaching materials is quite effective improve students^ mathematical problem solving with arithmetic of 11.46 and a significance of 0.00. Based on data analysis and effectiveness testing, it can be concluded that mathematics teaching materials have been developed can improve students^ mathematical problem-solving abilities.
