Abstract
This research is focused on analyzing the urgency of legal protection of local food in realizing food sovereignty in Papua. This type of research is normative juridical legal research, this research is also known as literature study research. The primary legal materials are laws and regulations, especially in the food sector and other supporting analytical materials used by descriptive qualitative analysis. The results of the study found that efforts to protect and utilize local food have been regulated through Regional Regulation 6/2020 which requires the Papua Provincial Government to provide space in the form of preservation, protection and development of local food in order to realize local food-based food security on the land of Papua which is rich in natural resources. However, it is a dilemma that this regulation has not been able to be fully implemented along with the conversion of millions of hectares of indigenous Papuan land for local food into oil palm plantations and massive logging, which is feared to threaten the security and sovereignty of local food itself in the future.
