TOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE EVIRONMENTAL IN WASUR NATIONAL PARK, IN MERAUKE REGENCY

Abstract

The tourism sector in Merauke Regency is currently one of the reliable potential sectors to strengthen the regional economic structure. Recently, the regional economic structure is still based on the primary sector. However, the economy will be able to move forward by transforming into the secondary and tertiary sectors by relying on the tourism sector. Tourism potential in Merauke Regency is still not yet widely explored to be developed. There is one tourisme potential in this area is Wasur National Park. This park has a variety of endemic plants and animals that need to be protected and preserved. Meanwhile, forests and ecosystems as well as indigenous peoples in this area also need to be protected for their lives. This research uses an approach awith observation, interview and literature study. The results of the study find that there are endemic animals that continue to decrease, the ecosystem is not balanced with causing by hunting amd illegal tree logging which has a negative impact on the environment, the tourism sector has a positive impact on awareness and benefits of the environment in harmony with nature.
