Abstract

The cultivation of national character values in Pancasila and Civics education (PPKn) has a very important role to form a young generation with a nationalist spirit. However, the current problem is the lack of introduction and exemplification of the nation^s founding figures among students. In fact, the founding figures of the Indonesian state have a strong nationalist character and a solid national vision. Unfortunately, their life histories and contributions to nation building are rarely studied in Civics learning in the classroom. As a result, many students lack a strong national character and are not inspired by the values of nationalism. This research aims to examine effective strategies to instill nationalist character values through stories of national figures in Civics learning. This research uses the literature review method to review various literature on the role of national figures in character education and the application of learning strategies based on character stories in Civics classes. The study shows that by telling inspiring stories about the struggles and values of the founding figures, such as Soekarno, Mohammad Hatta, Mohammad Natsir and Ki Hajar Dewantara, students can be more inspired and motivated to develop a strong national character and nationalist attitude. The results of this study recommend that Civics teachers can involve stories about the struggles, thoughts, and values of national figures into learning materials as a means to strengthen the value of national character among students. Thus, Civics learning is not only a means of sharing knowledge but also building quality character.
