Democracy Education through Pancasila Values for Sociology Students in Higher Education

Abstract

The presence of technology is a challenge for the world of education including students in the field of sociology. Students are encouraged to understand concepts such as social stratification, norms, values and social change. These concepts are inseparable from the conditions of students^ daily social environment. Moreover, they are directed to be able to identify and analyse these concepts based on the influence of globalisation and technological advances. Regarding to the concept of value, sociology is a science that encourages critical thinking and understanding of the role of individuals in a broader social context. This study aims to analyse democracy education based on Pancasila values in sociology education students in higher education. The research method used is a qualitative approach. Researchers worked with 10 students in sociology education. The data collection process was conducted through in-depth interviews and literature studies. The results of this study show that democracy education can be instilled in students as values that bind their relationship as citizens with the state. This research concludes that the values of Pancasila are not only limited to the ideology but can also shape the character and identity of the people in accordance with the culture and values of the Indonesian nation. Thus, they can be able to face global challenges through democracy education. This research has implications for the learning process of introductory sociology integrated with democracy education based on Pancasila values. Students can understand the thinking of Pancasila values as conflict resolution in social problems in their environment
