Abstract

Water quality is one of crucial things in aquaculture. Water quality has varied effects to animals health. One of diseases events that can occur in aquaculture farms is endoparasite infestation. The study investigated the endoparasite affecting farmed red hybrid tilapia, Oreochromis spp. in 4 different locations in Sarawak, Malaysia. Hundred twenty farmed red hybrid Tilapia were sampled out from this study throughout June to December 2022 from four different district (Kuching, Miri, Mukah and Sibu). This study included different types of fish farms, earthen pond, concrete pond, and fish cage. Water quality parameters for four ponds were evaluated in situ using multiprobe and ex situ, in the laboratory. The result shows high concentration of nitrite nitrate, phosphate and ammonium recorded from concrete pond. However out of four farms, the study revealed high number of digenean trematode endoparasite found mostly in stomach and intestine of farmed red hybrid tilapia reared in earthen pond. The finding shows different result for endoparasite infestation in relation to water quality. Though certain condition of water quality parameters could be optimum environment for endoparasite life cycle, controllable environment in fish farm should be utilized to ensure health and the profitability of fish farming.
