Abstract

This study aims to compare the histological appearance of the intestine and hepatopancreas of vannamei shrimp given Fermented Herbal Extract (FHE) and without FHE. This research was conducted from December 2021 to April 2022. Vannamei shrimp by administering FHE was carried out in Tarusang Village and those without Vitomolt plus was carried out by cultivating communities in Japing-Japing Village, Labakkang District, Pangkep Regency, each with a maintenance period of 87 days . Preparation and observation of histological preparations were carried out at the Educational Verterinary Pathology Laboratory at Hasanuddin University using the standard Hematoxylin-Eosin method. The results showed that the addition of FHE to the feed had an effect on the histological appearance of the vannamei shrimp intestine and hepatopancreas compared to the control treatment. Supplementation of FHE showed in increasing the length of the villi, the distance between the villi, the number of villi, the number of goblet cells, and the number of lymphocyte cells. The hepatopancreas appears normal with a star-shaped lumen and intact tubules. This histological appearance explains why shrimp that received EHF supplementation were healthier and grew larger than those without EHF
