Abstract

Java Sea or Fisheries Management Area (FMA) 712 directly adjacent to Bangkalan Regency has been overexploited. Arosbaya Sub-district in Bangkalan Regency makes the capture fisheries become the main income commodities. In Arosbaya gill net and trammel net commonly used by the fishermen. Both gill net and trammel net in Arosbaya have been optimized, but have not been tested for environmental friendliness. To optimize sustainable fisheries, Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) was initiated by the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO). CCRF became a global guideline for the implementation of responsible world fisheries. From this, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia adapted and produced 9 criteria for environmental friendliness to determine the status of a fishing gear. The purpose of this research is to analyze and compare the level of environmental friendliness of gill net and trammel net in Arosbaya Waters based on CCRF criteria. Data collected in Arosbaya Waters, Bangkalan and used 100 respondents who were trammel net and gill net fishermen. Data obtained from observation, questionnaires and documentation. The data used is data that contains 9 criteria of eco-friendly fishing gear. Based on the results of the CCRF analysis, the trammel net got 28 points. Meanwhile, the gill net got 30 points. Thus, both are included in the category of extremely environmentally friendly fishing gear. Based on these results, gillnet is superior to trammel net in Arosbaya Waters
