DISCRIMINATORS OF THE RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT OF THE GRADE 12 STUDENTS IN THE DIVISION OF NUEVA VIZCAYA, PHILIPPINES

Abstract

Research is a skill needed by students to become critical and creative to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings that will challenge them to help contribute to the improvement and development of the society. As this study aimed to determine the discriminators of the research achievements of the Grade 12 STEM students in the Division of Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines. It investigated the students in terms of their profile, levels of research interest, research self - efficacy, interpersonal and instructional perception towards research training environment, and obtained the model that discriminates students with high or low Research Achievement.This study employed the descriptive and exploratory designs. The descriptive statistics were used to describe the profile of the students and the levels of research interest, research self - efficacy, interpersonal and instructional perception towards research training environment of the students. Discriminant analysis was employed to determine the significant discriminators of high or low Research Achievement. The study found that students considered themselves interested and moderately efficient towards research activities and research - related tasks. They perceived that the intervention of research training environment was moderately effective in their study of research. The size of school and the Statistics and Probability grade are the discriminators that differentiate the high or low performing of the research achievement of students. Thus, teachers would have to become more enthusiastic in their ways of teaching in the field of Statistics and Probability.
