Abstract

Managing a project is a relatively complex activity and difficult to do because it is required to pay attention to various aspects such as aspects of time, cost, resources, progress in achieving goals, and much more. To achieve project success, a project manager must have the ability to lead a project. Many researchers have proven that the transformational style is an effective leadership style and has a positive relationship with project success. This study aims to determine the relationship between the transformational leadership style of project managers based on gender and project success directly, as well as the relationship between them if moderated by the type of construction project, the type of information technology project, and emotional intelligence. This study used inferential analysis using PLS-SEM software and data obtained through questionnaires distributed to project workers spread across Indonesia. The results of this study suggest that the transformational leadership style of project managers with the female gender type has no association with project success including when this relationship is moderated by the type of construction project and emotional intelligence, but has a significant relationship if moderated by the type of information technology project. Meanwhile, the transformational leadership style of male project managers has a direct relationship with project success, and this relationship is positively influenced by the type of construction project, but negatively affected by emotional intelligence, but the type of information technology project does not affect this relationship.
