Abstract

Abstract. Indian parrotfish Chlorurus capistratoides is a herbivorous fish that has a vital role in maintaining the balance of coral reef ecosystems. Herbivorous fish can control macroalgae populations so that macroalgae blooms can be controlled. Overexploitation can lead to an imbalance in the population structure. This study examines whether there are differences in the annual reproductive biology of Indian parrotfish Chlorurus capistratoides in the three research years from 2018 to 2020. The parameters observed were sex ratio, stage maturity, and size at first maturity of Indian parrotfish Chlorurus capistratoides. The results showed variations in the distribution of sex ratio, stage maturity, and size at first maturity of the population of Indian parrotfish Chlorurus capistratoides in Wallace Line, Makassar Strait, Indonesia. This variation in the distribution of sex ratio, stage maturity, and size at first maturity strengthens the alleged results of previous studies, which say that the population structure of the Indian parrotfish Chlorurus capistratoides is less balanced- this imbalance has something to do with exploitation and hermaphrodite
