Analysis of sustainable fishing for big eye scads fish (Selar crumenopthalmus) in Majene waters, Indonesia 1) Faculty of marine science and fisheries, Hasanuddin University, Indonesia. Abstract Big eye scads fish is an economically important small pelagic fish that plays a very important role in coastal fisheries. Big eye scads fish in the waters of Majene are generally caught by fishing rods and hand rods. The condition of the Big eye scads fish population in various coastal areas tends to experience high exploitation pressures to overfishing, therefore observations are needed at the research location. The study was located in Majene Regency, West Sulawesi province, from June to November 2019. The parameters observed included the length of the fork and the weight of fish caught by Scottish seine net and hand line fishing gears. The data were analysed using the help of Fisat software. The results showed that a sample of 815 tails with a fork length range of 7-22cm, with an average length of 11.5 cm. Consists of three age groups, with a dominant average length of 10.82 cm. Negative isometric growth conditions, fish length where 50% caught was 18.74 cm. A total of 96.6% of the fish caught were not suitable for catching. The condition of the big eye scads fish fishery is in an unsustainable condition. To increase its sustainability, it is necessary to modify the net mesh size of Scottish seine net and the hook size of the fishing line.
