Abstract

Purpose - Researchers view the construction sector as a non-innovative industry, however, some researchers argue that the uniqueness of the construction sector is an opportunity to innovate. This study aims to examine the effects of leader-member exchange (LMX) and work live balance (WLB) on employee innovative work behavior (IWB) through job involvement.
Design/methodology/approach - This research was conducted using quantitative methods with 252 respondents who work in several construction project in Indonesia. A Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) model has been used to test the hypotheses.
Findings - Results showed that WLB and LMX are positively related to employees^ IWB, and these relationships are mediated by job involvement.
Practical implications - From a managerial perspective, individual innovative work behavior is one of the drivers of innovation in the construction sector as individuals are central in implementing and as a decision maker in the construction process.
