The Harmony of Nature in Ahmad Tohari^s Thoughts Through the Novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak: A Message on the Importance of Environmental Education

Abstract

Currently, awareness of the importance of natural harmony as an ecosystem of human life is one of the necessary topics to be studied. This condition is triggered by the phenomenon of natural damage caused by the actions of unscrupulous people. The environmental damage can be triggered by forest clearing for industrial purposes. In addition, the increasing complexity of plastic waste management due to the lack of public education about this impact has also increased the destruction of the natural balance. Hence, through this article, the researcher attempts to connect this paradigm with the message conveyed through the novel Di Kaki Bukit Cibalak (hereinafter referred to as DKBC) by Ahmad Tohari. The method used in the preparation of this article is genetic structuralism, with a sociological literature approach. The results show that based on the structure of the story, there is a world view of the author about the importance of maintaining the harmony of nature which is implied in the story being told. This view also represents that the harmonization and harmony of nature is an important foundation for Indonesia^s youth generation. Therefore, the author^s narrative can be one of the notable pillars as an alternative to environmental education material delivered through formal education.
